Hugh Lytle is a serial entrepreneur, healthcare innovator, and mission-driven leader with more than 25 years of experience building category-defining companies that reshape how care is delivered, financed, and experienced—particularly for underserved and high-need populations.
Hugh has recently established the El Toro Ventures family office to focus on healthcare investing and platform development, partnering with his father and brother.
Prior to El Toro, Hugh was the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Equality Health, who partners with state governments, managed care organizations, and primary care providers to advance value-based care for Medicaid populations. He founded Equality Health as a boot-strapped start-up to address deep structural inequities in government healthcare programs through a tech-enabled, physician-centric care platform. Under his leadership, Equality Health scaled from startup to a $1 billion revenue enterprise in under five years, supporting over 750,000 Medicaid beneficiaries across multiple states and metropolitan areas—delivering improved outcomes, higher quality, and lower total cost of care.
Prior to Equality Health, Hugh co-founded Univita Health, a national care management and post-acute coordination platform. As President and CEO, he helped grow Univita to serve over six million Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries nationwide.
Earlier in his career, he co-founded Axia Health Management, introducing one of the nation’s first integrated preventive health and wellness platforms, including the SilverSneakers® program, which today remains the leading senior fitness initiative in the U.S.
Hugh has also held executive roles at CVS Health and Xerox. He holds an MBA from Butler University, serves on multiple boards, and is deeply involved in healthcare investment and innovation. He and his wife, Barbara, are active philanthropists through their family foundation, supporting organizations that create safe, inclusive environments for those in need.
